Dick was a Stivers H.S. alumni class of 1950. He served proudly in the U.S. Army, a Korean War veteran, 2nd Infantry Division. Dick began his career at United Color Press and continued working in the printing industry until his retirement at the age of 80. He attended Living Word Church. Dick may be remembered for his many "Letters to the Editor" to the Dayton Daily News. Dick and Ginger were the original Brady Bunch, they successfully raised 9 children and managed to still have most of their marbles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Hackworth; granddaughter, Stephanie Hackworth and sister, Nancy Hackworth.
Dick will be missed by his loving wife of 48 years, Virginia "Ginger"; eight children, Cheryl (Marvin) Smith, Steven (Tammi) Hackworth, Russell (Kimberly) Hackworth, Harold Dalrymple, Julie (Thomas) Rachlow, Bobbi Fickler, Brian (Uma) Hackworth, Jacki Dalrymple; daughter-in-law, Kathy Hackworth; 25 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sisters, Peggy (Arlen) Bockhorn and Mary Woods and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Sunday, December 17, 2017 from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton, OH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to either the Stivers High School Alumni Association or the Dayton Policeman's Widow's Fund.
