In Memory Of
Frederic Charles Holtvoigt
1929 - 2017

Frederic Charles Holtvoigt was born on July 12, 1929 and began his eternal journey on August 21, 2017, 2:28 p.m. at the age of 88 and the pinnacle of the solar eclipse. Fred was no stranger to journeys as he loved to travel and enjoyed everything about the outdoors including fishing, hiking and the occasional potshot at an intruding groundhog. His love of the outdoors was exceeded only by his insatiable curiosity about nearly every topic from history, space and aviation, to politics and current events. He was also very good with his hands and was willing to tackle any job from electrical to plumbing to carpentry to automotive mechanics. And he was an excellent teacher of these skills. His tools were his most valuable possession.

He had long retired from his labors but had served as a draftsman, designing shelving and checkout equipment for grocery retail outlets. In addition, he later worked as a fabricator and welder. Fred truly was a versatile, unique and talented man with an ability to conquer any task or solve any problem put before him.

Fred was proceeded in death by his father, Lester E. Holtvoigt, Sr. and his mother, Teresa C. Holtvoigt; brother Lester E. Holtvoigt, Jr., and his wife Ann; brother Robert C. Holtvoigt; sister Miriam (Holtvoigt) Drake and her husband, Arthur Drake; nephew Michael A. Holtvoigt.

He is survived by his three loving children, Donald C. Holtvoigt (Mary Ann); Teresa H. Tong (George Hicks); and James F. Holtvoigt (Jana). Grandchildren, Dr. Lauren Holtvoigt (Matt Claborn), Kristen Holtvoigt, Andrew Holtvoigt and Abigail Holtvoigt. Sister, Madeleine (Holtvoigt) Powell (Wayne); sister-in-law, Virginia. Numerous nieces and nephews and dedicated lifelong friend, Janet Boehmer.

The family will be hosting a celebration of Fred’s life on Friday, October 20, 2017, 2:30 p.m. at the Chapel at Sycamore Glen Retirement Community, 317 Sycamore Glen Dr., Miamisburg Ohio. Friends and family are welcome to join us for “Fred Stories”, of which there are many. Interment will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the St. Kateri Preserve in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton.

In lieu of flowers/gifts, please consider a donation in Fred’s name to Hospice of Dayton.
