In Memory Of
Patricia A. "Pat" Smith
1934 - 2017

Patricia A. Smith (Hohm) led the way to heaven for us on Monday, February 20, 2017 in the presence of her lifelong love, Bob Smith, her husband of almost 65 years and her family. Pat blesses us with a legacy of love, family, and giving of herself. She lived courageously with Alzheimer’s for over 13 years, remaining in the couple’s home through the care and love of her husband. Pat was born January 14, 1934 in Dayton, OH, to the late Charlotte and Henry Hohm. She was the middle child in a family of three girls and always cherished her sisters, Ann (Ray) Geis and Henrietta “Hey Hey” Lafferty (deceased). Pat met her Sweetie, Bob, when she was 17 years young and they married March 29, 1952. Bob was in the Marines and returned to Camp Pendleton while Pat graduated from Roosevelt H.S. in Dayton, OH that June and dashed to California as a young newlywed. She worked at the Marine base until she returned to Dayton to have their first child in Nov. 1953, the day Bob was honorably discharged from the Marines.

Pat always put others first and shared everything she had. She filled her life with love of family, passion for growing beautiful flowers and had an artist’s eye to create amazing floral arrangements. She loved music, crafting, her dog Sasha, and travels with Bob anywhere, especially the Smoky Mountains. Her cooking talent came from her Mom and Pat created original meals from foods raised in the family’s large garden and the wild game of rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, and quail hunted by Bob. Her pressure cooker was a best friend, but she’d warn those eating that even it did not remove buckshot. Pat loved many more things in life, but admittedly one of them was not the mountains of cloth diapers washed and folded over a span of 15 years.

Pat & Bob wanted a large family, built their forever brick home, and raised 6 children. Pat is survived by husband Bob, kids Vickie Smith (Tony Cochran), Bob (Denise) Smith, June (Jim) Hufford, Chris (Christine) Smith, Rose Hennen (Fiancé Jim Wood), Andy (Kelly) Smith, 14 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 2 more on the way, and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Garaci celebrating mass. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the church hall immediately following the mass. Burial of the ashes will be private at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
