In Memory Of
Sylvia "Eva" Gaddis
1926 - 2017

Sylvia “Eva” Gaddis., age 90, of Washington Township, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017, under Hospice Care at Miller Farm Place.

Eva was born in White Rock, NC, on July 24, 1926, grew up in Greenville, TN, and moved to Dayton at age 17 to await her future husband coming home from WWII.

Her first job was filing plane propellers. She later worked as a short order cook at G. C. Murphy’s and eventually showed her artistic abilities decorating Elder Beerman’s showcase windows.

Even in her 80’s she mowed her yard and was an avid gardener - displaying beautiful flowers in her neighborhood and providing homegrown southern comfort food for her family. An understanding listener, her kitchen was the gathering place for all of the neighborhood teens.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Tony Gaddis, her parents Della and Arvil Tweed, two sisters Vona Higgins and Verlie Tweed, and brother Frank Tweed.

She is survived by daughter Karan Bowden and husband Rich of Washington Township; son Tony Jr. and wife Mary of Kettering; grandchildren Angie (Ronnie) Wallace, Nick (Leslie) Andrews, Victoria (Jay) Garcia, Laura Gaddis, David (Katie) Bowden, Emily Gaddis (Andy Bahns), Erica Bowden, and Molly (Joe) Castro; 14 great-grandchildren with another on the way; 1 great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Donations may be made to Fairmont Presbyterian Church in Kettering or to Hospice of Dayton. Thanks to all of the special care provided by her “friends” at Miller Farm Place. A special thanks to the nurses of Hospice of Dayton for making her last days peaceful and pain free.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 25, at Fairmont Presbyterian Church at 10:00 A. M. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. She will then be taken to her final resting place at David’s Cemetery in Kettering.
