Marjorie Caton Kanost (nee: Wine)

Age 98, entered into the presence of God and for the first time saw the precious face of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 17, 2017.

She was born in Washington DC on August 31, 1918, the daughter of Alden Kemper Wine and Maude Alice (nee: Barnes) Wine, and was born again into the family of God at a young age. In 1935, she graduated from Eastern High School in Washington DC, and in 1937 completed the Secretarial course at Strayer College. Her love of music was great, and she became an accomplished pianist, but her love of the Lord was even greater, leading her to use her talents for Him as the pianist at churches in several cities, including Washington DC, Richmond, Indiana, and Dayton, Ohio. While the pianist for the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington DC, she met the love of her life, Wesley Arschal Kanost and they married on February 28, 1942. After moving to Dayton, Ohio, she spent many years volunteering at the Dayton City Mission, and was the beloved pianist and choir accompanist for 19 years at Washington Heights Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Wesley, in 1986, and by her oldest son, Philip Alden Kanost, in 2013.

Surviving her are her children; John Wesley Kanost Senior and wife Ruth Ann of Dayton, Ohio; Susan Loraine (nee: Kanost) Sivak and husband Gary of Dayton, Ohio; Alison Luanne (nee: Kanost) Ollis and husband Randy of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Gary Alan Kanost and wife Annette of Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.

“The memory of the righteous is a blessing” Proverbs 10:7a ESV.

Please join her family and friends as we remember the blessing that she was to all of us and celebrate her new life with Christ. Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2017 from 11:00am to 12:00pm with a service immediately following at Washington Heights Baptist Church, located at 5650 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45429, with Pastors David Kisner and Roger Jensen officiating.
