In Memory Of
Thelma Jenkins
1926 - 2016
Thelma was a graduate of Boyd County High School and later graduated as a Cosmetologist in Portsmouth, OH. She was employed at Crisp’s Beauty Service in Dayton (with her sister Belvia) when she married Donald C. Jenkins on March 18, 1951. Thelma continued her occupation as a hairdresser at their home in Beavercreek until her passing. She was a lifelong dedicated Mother, Grandmother and friend with a kind, caring, and generous spirit.
At 90, Thelma was diagnosed with an aggressive malignant brain tumor and underwent a successful surgery. Regrettably, this illness was not improved by further treatment; nevertheless, Thelma maintained great courage as she faced numerous difficulties.
Thelma was also preceded in death by her husband Don, four brothers, Bascum, Orville, Alden, and Edgar; and four sisters, Betty Imogene (an infant), Sarah Hutchinson, Ella Mae Rice, and Ada Rucker. Of special mention, a beloved companion and service dog, Bitu.
She is survived by loving and devoted family, daughter Treva Jenkins (Julius Rastikis) of Beavercreek, son Gary Jenkins (Terrie McManes) of Xenia, granddaughter Sarah Back and husband Jamie with their sons James and Dominic; a sister, Belvia Jennings of Beavercreek and a brother, Dennie Crisp and his wife Nellie of Ashland, KY. Thelma has countless nieces and nephews all who love her beyond measure; as well, many faithful friends and a recently adopted companion, Gracie Ann.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10th, 3:30pm at Patterson Park Church, 3655 E. Patterson Rd. in Beavercreek. Friends may call from 1 to 3:pm at Newcomer’s Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek. A private interment will be at the convenience of the family at Valley View Memorial Gardens. Her family asks that you consider donations in Thelma’s memory to Hospice of the Miami Valley, 46 N. Detroit St., Suite B, Xenia, OH, 45385 or www.ascpa.org/donate to help animals in need.
