Anne Gilmer Walters was born on March 17, 1914 in Hansonville, Russell County, Virginia.

She & her family moved to Hustonville, Lincoln County, Kentucky followed by a move to nearby McKinney, Ky.

Anne was one of ten children(three brothers & seven sisters) & was the last remaining member of this loving family.

She graduated from McKinney High School in 1932 & attended Berea College, Ky. She received her teaching certificate & began teaching at the McCormack Christian School.

On February 24,1936, she married Edward Ward Walters, her husband to be for thirty-two years until his death in 1968.

In 1939, she gave birth to their only child, Edward Dale Walters. He survives & lives in Topeka, Kansas. She has a wonderful granddaughter, Marcy Lynn Walters Barkley, & has a great-grandson, Devin Alan Barkley. Both reside in Overland Park, Kansas. A grandson, Ward
Owen Walters, is deceased. She has a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Molen Walters who lives in Topeka, Kansas. Anne had many nieces & nephews with whom she was close & loved.

Beginning with her teaching at the McCormack Christian School, she had a long & devoted
association with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Dayton, Ohio & in Kettering, Ohio, was involved in the Central Women’s Fellowship, was active in several church committees & was the first woman Elder of Central Christian Church.

She was a Branch Manager, Dayton Daily News for twenty years, worked in the Circulation Department of the Kettering and Oakwood Times for eight years & worked for the Kettering-Oakwood Chamber of Commerce as an Administrative Assistant for four years. She retired at age eighty four.

Anne enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, visiting relatives, seeing plays & musicals, reading poetry & many books, discussing current events, philosophy, politics & reading the Dayton Daily News every day. Her life has been highlighted by her devotion to her husband, son, granddaughter, grandson & great grandson; love of her family; framing & discussing meaningful issues
in her life & exercising thoughtful judgment about these issues.

The family appreciates deeply the care & concern of the Long-Term Staff at the Sycamore
Glen Health Center.
