Erna del Carmen Vidal Reed, 86, of Huber Heights, passed away May 22, 2016. Erna was born in Iquique, Chile on November 14, 1929 to the late Victorino and Inez Vidal. Erna was a member of The Dayton Council on World Affairs for many years. Erna was an art teacher in the Mapuche Santa Cruz Convent where she was a nun for 14 years in the city of Victoria. She then left after a serious throat condition and became a secretary in Santiago for Senator Coloma. For many years following Erna continued teaching art and selling her beautiful artwork. She also studied biology and science. She was a loving, funny, and compassionate person and was truly one of a kind.
In addition to her parents, Erna was preceded in death by her loving Husband of 53 years, Lawrence Reed; sister, Ernestina; and brothers, Luis, Victor Manuel, and Arnoldo.
She is survived by daughters, Agnes F. Reed Davis and her husband Mark of Maryland, and their children Andre and Joel; and Carmen A. Viera and her sons Pedro and Angelo. She is also survived by her sisters, Alicia, Teresa, Miriam; brother, Mario; and many other nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 5:30pm-7pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, 10am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6161 Chambersburg Rd, Dayton, with Father Ethan Moore officiating. Burial will be at Dayton Memorial Park.
