1959 - 2016

Joey “Joe” D. Reels, age 57, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2016 in Dayton, OH. He was born to Oscar and Joyce Reels on April 8, 1959 in Cookeville, TN. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Kathy Reels; daughter Gina (Jerry) Tom; two grandchildren Jerry Tom and Tianna Tom; mother Joyce Reels; sister Linda (John) Butler; 6 nephews; 3 nieces and numerous family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Reels. Joe was one of a kind. He was strong and always brave. Joe loved animals of all kinds, especially his cat, Twinkie, who loved him deeply, too. He loved the outdoors and camping, especially the time he and his wife spent camping on the Ohio River. Nicknames were a big part of his relationships. Some of his friends called him “Boot”, others called him “Salsa Joe”. His daughter was his “Chief”. His wife, he called “Ralphie”. A nickname inspired by the bunny suit in “A Christmas Story”. He put on his boxing gloves to fight the cancer and bravely fought a good fight. After a stop at the Rainbow Bridge, Heaven welcomed him. Family and friends who have gone before embraced him with love, light and no more pain or struggle. Joe is surrounded by the love of his Lord. A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 5pm-8pm with a funeral service to follow on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 11am. Be an organ donor.
